That he didn’t sound happy and I loved him/cared about him very much, which is why I was telling him this. He’s so young and it really sounded like he was depressed. My heart really goes out to this young man and is a bit broken for him. Much of it was disjointed and made not a whole ton of sense either. He sounded like he was just reading off this list of things he HAD to say, almost like when you force a little child to apologize or thank their aunt/uncle for a gift. I asked him who Jesus was to him, what he believed about scripture/God/heaven and hell. He also said he “just liked to talk about Jesus”.

He gave me very little information, just that he was 20 and “I guess I like art and skateboarding”. I started out asking him about himself, what interests he had, what his story was, just general things to get to know him.

I was very suspicious, but apparently, it’s now a thing to just start texting random numbers. So anyway, it started out really odd since I got a text from a strange number. Needless to say, I know a lot of the talking points and could intelligibly have conversation/debate with someone from this religion. I’ve even had some close friends who are apologists and one on my board at church currently. I’ve had a few run-ins with Mormons before, including some pretty humorous ones and having a friend for a while where we’d often debate things. I’ve been a christian pastor for close to 5 years now.

I had an interesting encounter with a young man from the L.D.S church today and I thought you’d be interested to hear about it.įirst off, a little background on me.
